Featured Growing Dome® Greenhouses

Here we celebrate our Growing Dome owners and
welcome you to the wonderful world of greenhouse gardening!

These owners have been kind enough to submit pictures of their Growing Domes
and some comments about their experiences with Growing Dome Gardening.

Our dome owners would agree the Growing Dome Greenhouse is a significant improvement in solar greenhouse design. Most greenhouses are based on the English greenhouse design. This is basically a rectangular box, usually of glass and aluminum. Those greenhouses work better in England because of its maritime climate and low
light intensity. In the USA traditional greenhouses perform very poorly. They usually
have no thermal mass or insulation to give temperature stabilization, so they are little more than season extenders.
Because of the seven uniqiue features of the Growing Dome you can truly experience a year-round enclosed indoor garden along with many
of our satisified owners!

Winter Update:

On the left are the latest pictures of our dome produce. We have used some auxilliary heat from a propane "Southern Burner" on the nights that it got -9 below. The heater kept it at least 37 degrees F at night. The water temperature has gotten as high as 52 degrees on the sunniest days and the air temperature has been up to 80 degrees. The big bass in the tank think spring is coming and are starting to eat worms again. They are all getting big and fat and are healthy.

It is great to eat fresh greens in the middle of winter. We have been extremely pleased with our dome project. The PV panel that you see outside the door on the ground charges two batteries for lighting and an irrigation pump.

Previous summer update:

I have set up a solar powered watering pump from the pond
in which I have 10 smallmouth bass and they are doing well - I have a spring (at 65 degrees F) flowing in and out of it to keep the water clean. We hope to get a lot of people over to see the dome. We are clearing out some summer plants and getting new beds started now. I am also separating the tank with netting so that I can have my carnivorous bass in the same tank with the smaller goldfish and koi for the winter.

If your are in the area, give us a call and check the winter dome out!! Hope all is well with everyone. Take care, Joann and Rick Vollmer @ Growing Spaces, Thornton, New Hampshire 603-726-7600
